So I was recently looking through the PlayStation hacking scene and I discovered something very interesting!
This little device allows you to do pretty amazing things. The most amazing is that it does NOT void your warranty! That's right, as long as you have the proper versions of things you will not be having to void anything.
Now this little device does cost about 20 dollars, but as long as you have the money for that and extra hard drive space you can start playing homebrew (programs made for the PS3 or other devices by home developers and not professionals) and game backups.
From what I've read... you have to have system version 3.15 or lower in order to use this device, but I've also seen you can have up to 3.41 of the system menus. Either way, if you're willing and able to do this crazy stuff, I actually think you should. Of course, there's always a chance of bricking your device... so again, don't try anything unless you're sure you want to go through with it. The PS3 is a complex machine and therefore the technology to hack it is not complete. Use it as your own risk, but have fun if you do use it!
This is a neat little device
ReplyDeleteWhat on earth does that thing do? I thought it was a USB at first LOL
ReplyDeleteif only I had a ps3! looks good =D
ReplyDeletei wouldn't recommend using it on your ps3 unless you know what you're doing
ReplyDeleteAnything like that for the 360?
ReplyDeleteDoesn't void warranty and only $20... hmm I like!
ReplyDeleteNeat little device but lucky for me my Nexus One Android phone can do pretty much the same thing. Although it is rather inconvenient so I am considering a dedicated device such as this one.
ReplyDeleteWish I had a ps3...
ReplyDeleteTwenty dollars is a small price to pay for something so useful!
ReplyDeleteI need that stick!
ReplyDeletecan you post a link here?
ReplyDeleteWow, this is pretty cool. I'm going to have to let my friends know about this. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteHm... doesn't get much easier than that
ReplyDeleteI wish I had a ps3 so I could try this out.
ReplyDeleteHm, lets go buy this and try at it at a walmart or game stop :D haha

ReplyDeletei could use this for my dreamcast
ReplyDeleteAw, i got exited there for a while :(
ReplyDeleteGreat invention, but I would prefer a custom firmware like on the psp.
ReplyDeleteYou can get a really cheap one of these on dealextreme
ReplyDeleteSounds pretty awesome!
ReplyDeleteOwnage tastes like chicken: It is a USB device. You plug it in a USB slot to do homebrew.
ReplyDeleteI miss the linux on my machine. I wish sony didn't upgrade that option away :(

ReplyDeletei want it !!
ReplyDeletefollowing and supporting you

I HAVE ONE IMPORTANT QUESTION
ReplyDeleteDoes it allow you to play PS2/PS1 games?
This may be the sole reason behind me buying a ps3
